Dating ultrasound to determine due date (7-12 weeks)
Routine blood tests, including: blood type, hemoglobin, thyroid, infectious disease screening and urine screen for infections.
Pap testing (if due)
Prenatal genetic screening. This is an optional screening test for down syndrome, neural tube defects, and other genetic disorders. Please see www.bcprenatalscreening.ca for more info.
Second Trimester
Detailed ultrasound at 20-22 weeks. This scan will assess the anatomy of your baby and sex determination will be done. This is a new requirement of the ultrasound scan so if you wish to keep the gender a surprise, please make the care team aware.
Gestational diabetes screening, repeated hemoglobin and ferritin testing, repeated blood type and antibody screening at 24-28 weeks.
If your blood type is Rh-negative, RhIG (Rhogam) is recommended at 28 weeks to prevent complications.
